Super Start for Junior Cup Teams
The City of Peterborough Junior Teams have all made a good start to their England Hockey age group competitions. Teams with boys and girls aged 11 to 18 have now all played their first fixtures and there have been goals galore in some impressive results.
Under 18 Boys
City had a bye in their first round, but hosted Dereham in the second round. A comfortable 14-1 win was the result for the boys who now have drawn Chelmsford away on Sunday 17 November.
Under 16 Boys
The Under 16 boys (pictured above with coaches Richard Herbage & Adam Wilson) were drawn in a league of six other teams within the East Midlands.
Their first two games were played on Sunday 20 October at Culford School, Suffolk. Playing back to back games, City first beat host team Bury St Edmunds 4-2 with goals from Majid Shah (2), Sam Anderson & Ben Lomas. Next up, they demolished Harleston Magpies 6-1, with the goals coming from Sam Anderson (2), Alec Bryden, Bradley Young, Manish Patel & Ben Connolly.
The top two out of the six teams in the league will progress to the Regional Finals, so after such a good start, the boys have high hopes. Their next fixture is again away against Cambridge City on Sunday 10 November, a team that have also already won both of their opening games.
Under 16 Girls
The Under 16 girls had a tough first day in their competition. With some injuries and unavailabilities, they lost to a very good Buckingham team, but then were unlucky to lose to Bedford. Although the girls were disappointed in their results, the depleted squad should take heart that both Buckingham and Bedford are bigger clubs on the Ladies side, so on paper the results were good and there are easier games for them in the junior league they are in.
The next fixture for the Under 16 girls is a home game against Northampton on Sunday 10 November.
Under 14 Boys
Two thumping wins for the young boys playing in the 7-a-side Development Competition. They beat Leicester 6-nil in the first game at Northampton, but really turned in a great performance to beat Beeston’s development team 8-1 in the second fixture of the day.
The City boys go to Beeston for the 2nd round of fixtures on Sunday 10 November, when they play the hosts and Northampton.
Under 14 Girls
The Under 14 girls (shown below) were in great form in their first two games, scoring 20 goals in just two games. The girls, playing in the 7-a-side Development competition, were again coached by Nathan Foad and Alessandro Vardaro and certainly got the best out of the talented bunch of young players.
Hosts Northampton were beaten 8-1 in the first game, but Buckingham were thrashed 12-nil in the second game.
The next fixtures for the girls are on Sunday 16 February 2014, when they play Lutterworth and Rugby & East Warwickshire.
