Pitch Replacement Project
Hockey is a sport that brings people together, promotes physical health, and fosters teamwork and determination. Our hockey club is more than just a sports club – it’s a gathering place for families, a training ground for young athletes, a safe space to make friends, express yourself and make lifelong memories.
After replacing our pitch in 2018 and a mammoth fundraising effort within just 2 years, we are now preparing for the future works required to keep our hockey club alive. The next Pitch Replacement Project is estimated to cost around £500k due to the ground works that will also be required to take place, therefore we need the support of the Peterborough community and our dedicated hockey club members to make this happen.
Supporting Local Talent Development
The City of Peterborough Hockey Club is home to many young, talented hockey players who rely on the pitch to hone their skills. These players represent the future of the sport, and many aspire to compete at higher levels, both nationally and internationally. A first-rate pitch is crucial for their training, ensuring they have the best possible environment to develop their potential. By supporting the Pitch Replacement Project, you’re not just funding infrastructure – you’re investing in the dreams and aspirations of young athletes in Peterborough.
Raising Hockey’s Profile
CoPHC is more than just a sports facility. It’s a social hub where families, friends, and neighbours come together to support the sport and each other. Events held at the pitch, whether they are weekend matches, training sessions, or community tournaments, raise the profile of hockey within the community. A new, modern pitch will enable us to continue hosting these important events and perhaps even expand our offerings, creating even more opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in the sport and the community.
Sport England’s Active Lives survey reported a decline in participation in hockey within England, most notably within female participation, despite the success of our National team at the Olympics in recent years. CoPHC are bucking this trend having added a 5th Women’s team as well as fielding a Girls U12s, U14s and U16s team in the same season for the first time in the club’s history. This shows the importance of raising the required funds in able to continue to support the growth of our Women’s and Girls section. It’s important here that we also acknowledge the growth of our Men’s section due to the success of our junior boys continuing to play into the adult leagues, and many players returning to CoPHC and the supportive family environment we pride ourselves on.
The Need for Your Support
While we have the determination and drive to see this project through, we can’t do it alone. Raising funds for the Pitch Replacement Project requires a collective effort, and we are calling on the Peterborough community and our club members to step up and help us reach our goal. Every donation, no matter how big or small, brings us closer to the finish line.
