Report: CoP Men’s 5th XI vs Long Sutton 2s – January 25, 2025
With the prevoius result in our minds (7-3 loss to Ely 2s), there was only 1 subject at the team talk.
“Do not give the ball away cheaply, keep possession”
With the team talk in mind, we started the game really well.
We played the ball to each other, made great passes and were rewarded when Buckley scored after 15 minutes.
Continuing great play and countering numerous aerials from LS we went into half time 3-1 with more 2 goals from Phil.
There were some niggles from players about umpring decisions but we ended the first half without any cards.
Perhaps we were relaxed about the score line but we were quickly brought under pressure and LS got 2 quick goals
to make it 3-3. With increased focus we returned to our passing game and after loads of pressure on LS we got a
short corner where Shane scored a great drag flick.
Frustration with umpiring decisions grey and emotions got the better of some with Mark and Waldo getting green cards and
Shane and Josh being given yellows. Despite this we worked hard and after a drag flick hit a player on the goal line
Phil scored a penalty flick to take to to 5-3.
With 2 mons to go calls from the captain of keep possession were not heeded and LS were given the opportunity to attach again and
got in our D where we gave away a short corner. The end of game whisle blew, we knew we had won but we still wanted to stop LS
scoring. Unfortunalely they score and the match ended as a 5-4 victory to us. 3 points a great result.
Well done team
Phil got Man of the Match, well played. And Josh Smith is washing shirts this week.
