Squeaky bottom time?

Published by on

For the Ladies 1st XI, it most certainly is getting tight at the bottom and as Alex Ferguson so famously called it, it really is “squeaky bum time”!

Last weeks’ draw at home with Pelicans was disappointing and has really dropped the Ladies into relegation trouble.  With four teams to be relegated from Division 1N and three of those already confirmed, it is down to City or St Ives as to who will be face the drop.

Of course, not only is it enough for the two local rivals to be battling it out for survival, but the two teams play each other this Saturday in what is almost definitely going to be the deciding game.  A win for St Ives, level on points but with a far superior goal difference, almost certainly relegates the City Ladies.  A win for City would mean a point is still needed against Lowestoft at Bretton Game on the final day of the season, but they would be confident to get that.

The pushback is at 12.30pm at St Ives, so all at Bretton Gate will be waiting to hear news coming back from the Lawrie and the Ladies.

At home, the main entertainment is from the top two men’s teams.

At 1pm, the City Men’s 1st XI entertain Wisbech.  The visitors are struggling this season and although they are four points above the bottom two, they know they probably need a win from one of the last two games to stay up.  Unfortunately for “Wiz” they know they will get no help from City, who will be anxious to maintain their unbeaten home record, and next week they play West Herts.

It’s certainly sure to be an exciting match for the spectators, with fire and heart from both teams and be a cracker of a contest.

The Men’s 2nd team are on at 2.30pm directly following the first team.  The opponents are Waltham Forest.  With City in 4th place in Prem B, and in excellent form in the last two months, don’t expect them to slip up.

The other top men’s team, the already promoted 4th XI are also at home.  They host Long Sutton 2nds in the 4pm pushback.  This is a strong team, bonded together well with lots of experience in all positions and some good youngsters too coming on well during the season.

Many observers of strange rituals around the 4th team will have seen a variety of different clothes and accessories mounting up week after week for their after match wear.  An insider has leaked that in addition to the 20 individual items that players have to remember to bring, this week’s compulsory item will add a little sparkle.  In fact, Captain Man-Mountain himself was snapped modelling the accessory earlier in the week and we’re pleased to be able to share that for everyone here.
