Vets make the Final!

Mens Vets today beat Bournemouth with a last-gasp winner to reach the Final of the EH Masters Over 40 Plate!

Shayne Andrews coolly converted a flick awarded in the last minute of the game following a heavy stick tackle from behind when it seemed the game was destined to go to a stroke competition to decide the winner.  Earlier, Jon Short had made some outstanding saves to keep the team in the game as Bournemouth had much more of the attacking play, and without Mike Yeoman and Richard Herbage, and with Shayne nursing a groin injury, things looked grim when the team went one nil down after about 10 minutes. However, the equaliser came towards the end of the first half when a magical move saw the ball played from the 16 by Pete Hings directly to Shayne just over the half way line (dubiously high but not called by the umpire), followed by a second long diagonal pass to Ian Kennedy at the top of the D and Ian calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper – end to end with just 3 touches!

The 2-1 victory puts the Vets into the final against Worcester to be played at Tonbridge School, Kent. The only fly in the ointment is that the game is on the Sunday of the Brummitt on 17th April, so several Brummitt teams will be decimated that day!
