Closing the gap on the leaders

City of Peterborough Men’s 1st XI superb win last Saturday brought them within two points of Prem A title favourites West Herts.  This week, both the two front running teams have weekends off as they are playing in the National League indoor competitions.  This therefore this gives City the opportunity to overtake West Herts and go second, further putting pressure on the leaders Harleston who have to come to Fortress Bretton Gate next week. There’s a full set of fixtures again this weekend, the last before the Christmas break, with all teams playing against their opposition from the opening day of the season. City of Peterborough HC Club Kit Available

The club are arranging with Neil at G&L Sports to offer City of Peterborough Hockey Club “badged” kit items for sale for all members. City teams with much to prove against their club colleagues

The East League Fixture computer has thrown up a great set of fixtures for Bretton Gate this Saturday, with six of the top seven men’s teams with inter-club grudge matches. The Men’s 1st XI though are in theory the highlight of the day with their 1pm pushback, hosting Cambridge University, the team one place above them in the League.  A win for City means they finish the first half of the season in 3rd place. Oscar is off to National Age Group Assessment

City player Oscar Sadikot is off this weekend to the final assessment stage of the National Age Group for England Under 16s. Based on their performances at the Futures Cup competition (the top level of junior regional hockey in England Hockey’s single system), a group of up to 30 players have been invited to a weekend long assessment camp at Bisham Abbey. Got to be at the Gate early for the top game!

Apart from the Ladies 1st XI game first up, a quirk of the club fixture planning sees all of the main teams either playing away or off site on Saturday.   So, for those around the club on Saturday afternoon, all the entertainment will come from the lower end of the club, so it’s a good opportunity for people to get out there and support the teams that don’t often get the prime slots.   Read more…
