Familiar opposition at the Gate

The last weekend of the season for the Men’s teams this Saturday will see the most familiar opposition down at Bretton Gate, as six of the Men’s teams will play each other in their final league games.    Although there are no promotion or relegation issues to settle, don’t expect your typical end of season dull games, as all players in all the teams will feel they have a lot to prove in one way Read more…

Squeaky bottom time?

For the Ladies 1st XI, it most certainly is getting tight at the bottom and as Alex Ferguson so famously called it, it really is “squeaky bum time”! Last weeks’ draw at home with Pelicans was disappointing and has really dropped the Ladies into relegation trouble.  With four teams to be relegated from Division 1N and three of those already confirmed, it is down to City or St Ives as to who will be face Read more…

Champagne Day for the Fours?

It’s odds on this Saturday that the Men’s fourth team will guarantee their promotion into Division 2, still with a couple of games to go.   After their win last week, Captain Neil “Man-Mountain” Lake (pictured left) and his team are eight points clear of 3rd placed Cambridge South, with just three games to go. A win away at Ely City 2nds (a 3pm pushback) on Saturday afternoon will therefore definitely guarantee the promotion.  Even Read more…

Promotion party for the Fantastic Fours is not far away!

There is a chance this Saturday that we may see the first promotion of the season for City of Peterborough. With the Men’s 4th team starting the weekend eight points clear of their nearest rivals, Cambridge South, they need only two wins from their four remaining fixtures in Division 3NW.  But with South having to play fourth placed Long Sutton, there is a reasonable chance that they may drop points meaning a single win Read more…

Ladies back to winning games and looking to keep it that way!

With the home games last weekend dominated by four of the six top men’s sides playing at Bretton Gate, it’s no surprise that the Ladies 1st XI are the big draw this Saturday.   The Ladies had a great win on the road last week, beating their rivals Cambridge City 2nds in a tight game.  Evergreen forward, Lyn Tancred (pictured left) was again on the scoresheet, adding to her tally of goals for the season.  Read more…

City now just waiting for the top two to falter (again)

Since restarting in the New Year, the Men’s 1st XI have pretty much done all they could to dramatically jump back into contention for the promotion into the National League. The superb win against Harleston Magpies last Saturday was the sixth win in a row and the eleventh match unbeaten.  In addition to the massive win over strugglers Ramgarhia, the top two in the league have been comprehensively beaten in the first matches back in Read more…
